a body image and self-esteem project for young girls

Developed through a community theatre process with people who had experience of disordered eating, this project aimed to expand the options for girls in making healthy choices about their bodies, diet, exercise and self-representation. The project was based on research on eating disorder prevention interventions and was externally evaluated. AnyBody's Cool was delivered in lower secondary schools with a play, an interactive workshop, teacher training and a handout, and toured Canberra schools for many years. It continues as a project of Mental Illness Education, and Gen S Stories was pleased to be invited to work on its redevelopment in 2012. A digital storytelling project with five young women has allowed Mental Illness Education to replace the play with stories told through digital media.

AnyBody's Cool was presented to the Mental Health Services Conference 2003
